How to differentiate between Normal, Prediabetes or Diabetes ?
Doctors can determine whether a patient has a normal metabolism, prediabetes or diabetes in one of three different ways:
1- The FPG (fasting plasma glucose) test
– at least 7 mmol/l means diabetes
– between 5.6 and 6.9 mmol/l means prediabetes
– less than 5.6 mmol/l means normal
2- The OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test)
– at least 11.1 mmol/l means diabetes
– between 7.8 and 11.0 mmol/l means prediabetes
– less than 7.8 mmol/l means normal
3- The HbA1C (A1C or glycosylated hemoglobin test) test
– at least 6.5% means diabetes
– between 5.7% and 6.4 % means prediabetes
– less than 5.7% means normal
